Pipeline Drying in Saskatchewan: A Custom Mobile Solution by Comairco

When a Saskatchewan energy provider needed to expand its operations, they weren’t just looking for a compressor — they needed a complete, self-contained solution capable of operating in remote locations with no electrical infrastructure whatsoever. That’s exactly the kind of challenge Comairco is built for.

A Relationship Built Over a Decade

Trust is earned one project at a time. Ten years ago, Comairco supplied this same client with a platform-mounted package — a Sullair 185 CFM compressor paired with a dryer, designed to operate without any electrical power on site. Today, that unit is still running. That track record of reliability is what brought them back when their needs evolved: more airflow and higher pressure, once again in a remote location with no access to the electrical grid.

The Challenge: Drying the Lines Before Commissioning

Before natural gas can be introduced into a pipeline, one step is absolutely non-negotiable: removing residual moisture from inside the pipes. Water in a gas line can cause corrosion, ice blockages, or compromise the integrity of the entire network. Line drying isn’t optional — it’s a safety requirement.

Meeting this need called for a portable, fully autonomous, and rugged unit designed for remote field operations.

The Solution: A Fully Custom Package

The Comairco team designed and assembled a complete trailer-mounted package, ready to be deployed on any job site. Here’s what’s included:

  • Sullair 400HH Air Compressor: high pressure, high performance — built for demanding applications in isolated environments.
  • Nano Pneumatic Dryer: 100% powered by compressed air, with no electrical source required. The ideal solution for off-grid sites.
  • Integrated Generator: added at the client’s request to charge tools in the field — fully independent from the compressed air system.
  • Hose Reel: for easy field connections and clean storage.
  • Two External Quick-Connect Ports: technicians can plug in equipment directly from outside the enclosure without opening the doors — a practical detail that makes a real difference in working conditions.

The interior of the enclosure was fully customized to optimize space, safety, and ease of use. And this is just one example of what’s possible — Comairco can also integrate fire suppression systems, custom workbenches, additional power outlets, and much more. When it comes to custom packages, the possibilities are virtually endless.

Two Months. Built Right.

From design to delivery, the entire package was assembled in two months. Every detail was engineered around real field conditions: autonomy, durability, and ease of operation.  And because custom equipment deserves custom training, Comairco also organized a group training session for the client’s full team — ensuring every operator was confident and ready from day one.

Your Next Project, No Matter How Complex

This project speaks to what sets Comairco apart: the ability to listen to a specific need, respond with the right equipment, and go well beyond the transaction. From engineering to training, we’re with our clients every step of the way.
